Who Should Be Nominated?
5th and 6th grade students may be nominated for MEGSSS by their school principals, classroom teachers, gifted education coordinators, or parents. Occasionally, we accept a highly motivated or precocious 4th grade student.
How do I Identify a Student Who Should Be Nominated?
- Nominees should score at or above the 98th percentile in mathematics and at or above the 95th percentile in reading on regularly administered standardized tests.
- Nominees should also display such traits as persistence, curiosity, perception, superior reasoning ability, originality, motivation, independence, social maturity, emotional stability, and enthusiasm for mathematics. Note that a student who displays these characteristics, but who is not earning good grades in mathematics (possibly out of boredom) may very well be an excellent candidate for this program.
- If you are uncertain as to whether or not a student should be nominated feel free to contact us. We would prefer to have you nominate the student over missing a student who might benefit from our program. So, when in doubt, nominate!
