We welcome...
educators of all kinds to our page especially for teachers. Project MEGSSS nominations occur mainly in the months of January and February, although we accept nominations on an ongoing basis. Because the summer program is a prerequisite for the after-school program, we will accommodate students nominated after the deadline to the extent we can.
We have downloadable resources for teachers and parents who wish to nominate a student. Please see our Program Information and Download tab for brochures, curriculum details, past newsletters and copies of letters that can be sent to parents explaining the Project MEGSSS program.
Why Nominate?
The advantages of Project MEGSSS:
For Students
- To receive high quality mathematcs education.
- To accelerate, both vertically and horizontally, their study of mathematics.
- To interact with other talented students while remaining within the social and chronological environment of their peers.
- To meet the intellectual challenge of a rigorous program beyond what they experience in their traditional school setting.
- To increase confidence in their intellectual abilities.
For School & Educators
- To have a strong mathematics program available for an important group of students they are not able to otherwise challenge.
For Society
- To encourage students in mathematics-related studies and produce adults who will compete on a global playing field.
- To respond to the serious shortages of students and employees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics projected for the years ahead.
Who Should I Recommend?
- Current 5th and 6th grade students may be nominated by teachers or parents. We sometimes accept highly gifted 4th graders as well.
- Normally, our students are those who score at or above the 98th percentile in math and the 95th percentile in reading, but you can nominate other students if you think they may benefit from the program--even if the standards described above have not been precisely met. When in doubt, NOMINATE! Please note, tuition assistance is available to eligible students; finances need not influence the nominating process.
- Nominees should also display such traits as persistence, curiosity, perception, superior reasoning ability, originality, motivation, independence, social maturity, emotional stability, and enthusiasm for mathematics. Note that a student who displays these characteristics, but who is not earning good grades in mathematics (possibly out of boredom) may very well be an excellent candidate for this program.
How Hard Is It To Do?
There are three ways. The first two choices provide assurance for you that the parent will actually receive information via U.S. Mail.
- You may e-mail a list of students’ names, along with their parents’ names, e-mail addresses and mailing information to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . We will mail information about our program directly to the parents.
- You may nominate students directly through this website by using our online nomination form in the Nomination tab above. This nomination is confirmed to the e-mail address provided, and we mail information about the program directly to the parents. In addition, the e-mail address is added to a list where the family will receive casual reminders and information about the process.
- You may download and send the parent notification letter located in the Downloads tab. We do caution you that, in our experience, many parents have found these letters months later in a stack of school papers. By then, they may have missed the opportunity to learn about the program's value for their student.
Okay, What’s the Deadline?
We ask for nominations by January 31, but accept them anytime. Parent information meetings are held during February and March and admissions testing is usually scheduled in March and April. Our goal is to give parents adequate time to learn about the program and determine if they wish to pursue the required testing. Children who are nominated late can be tested, but parents may miss the opportunity to attend a parent meeting.
Thank you for your assistance in making this unique program available to your talented math students. If you have questions, please see the Contact Us link at the top right hand corner of this page.
