A Highly Qualified Faculty...

Our Academic Director, Mrs. Shelley Propst:

Our Academic Director, Ms. Propst, teaches all summer classes, second and third year logic, and third year geometry. She was previously the Executive Director for several years, and has been teaching for Project MEGSSS since 1990.

Mrs. Propst earned a B.A. in Urban Studies from Cornell College in 1972, and completed the requirements for a Missouri State Teaching Certificate in Social Studies at St. Louis University and in Mathematics at the University of Missouri – St. Louis. She completed a three day training course in Geometer’s Sketchpad and has earned nine hours toward a Master’s Degree in Computers in Education at Fontbonne University.

During her "day job," Mrs. Propst teaches social studies at the University City Alternative High School (Lieberman Learning Center). She has previously taught mathematics at the middle school and high school levels in University City.

Mrs. Propst has five children and one step-daughter and seven grandchildren.  She enjoys singing baritone with Sweet Adelines International, and she and her husband own a chestnut tree farm in Washington County.

 

A Project MEGSSS teacher for over 20 years...Mr. Jim Grothe!

Mr. Grothe  teaches First Year and Second Year students. Logic and Algebra are just a couple of the topics he teaches. His full-time position is Registrar at Ursuline Academy, where he has been employed since 1987. He also teaches  evening classes in the Mathematics Department at St. Louis Community College at Forest Park where he has worked since 1982. He has earned a B.A. and M.A. in Mathematics from St. Louis University as well as lifetime K-12 teaching certification in Mathematics. He is married with two children. 

19 years with Project MEGSSS...Mrs. Joann Gallo.

Mrs. Gallo has been teaching high school mathematics for over 30 years.  For the last 19 years, she has taught at Ursuline Academy. She has been with Project MEGSSS since 1991 and started teaching with us after her daughter, Laura, attended the program.

 

Susan L. Miller Joined MEGSSS in 2009...

 Ms. Miller has 18 years’ teaching experience in middle and high school mathematics and is currently a mathematics teacher at McCluer North High School. She holds a B.A. in English from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and has a professional certification for high school math. In addition, she received her M.A. in Education Administration from Lindenwood University and also has 35 hours in related math/education/administration courses.

Ms. Miller has a diverse teaching background. She has worked as an English teacher for four years and substituted in both public and private schools for seven. Five years of her teaching career were spent developing technical programs for Jefferson College. She is now beginning her 8th year as a math teacher, teaching both regular and honors level high school math.

Ms. Miller, and her husband of 38 years, Ron, have 3 grown sons and a basset hound named Walter. They love to garden and travel.

Julie Thompson teaches our summer coursework...

Mrs. Thompson is a teacher with experience in the real-world application of math and is excited to teach the subject from the perspective of her career as an engineer.   She worked for General Motors and Boeing and knows how math and logic are used to build complicated systems and solve problems.  With a life-long love of math, she hopes to instill the same appreciation of math in the students she teaches.  Mrs. Thompson is a Mizzou Tiger with a degree in Chemical Engineering.  She lives in an historic house, has 3 kids, loves to watch football, and is a published artist.

We are excited to announce that Project MEGSSS has recruited:

Mr. Kevin Schlereth

Kevin holds a master's degree in mathematics from the University of Missouri. He began his professional career by teaching mathematics at the University of Missouri. Subsequently, he taught mathematics as part of the Upper School faculty at Allen Academy in Bryan, TX. Currently, he works as the mathematics coach at City Academy in St. Louis, as well as doing consultation for Saul Mirowitz RJA.  He finds math to be uniquely powerful in the development of highly effective critical thinkers. His hobbies include playing music and baking for his wife Jessica, their son Kevin III, and their daughter Madeline.
 

Mr. Brad Ziegler

Brad taught our Introduction to Applied Digital Logic pilot this summer. Mr. Ziegler is a technology education teacher at Parkway North High School. For the past three years, he has been teaching courses there in electronics, robotics, engineering, computer maintenance and power & energy systems. Brad holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla (2004) and a M.S. in Classroom Education from Missouri Baptist University (2008).  He is also a Master Teacher for the Digital Electronics course through the Project Lead-the-Way program (http://beta.pltw.org/).

Aside from his teaching duties, Mr. Ziegler enjoys hobbies in genealogy, amateur radio, antique automotive restoration, as well as volunteering with the Boy Scouts and working as a part-time firefighter/EMT.
